New Year - New Me

This poor blog doesn’t get a lot of attention. How sad is that? If you took a look at me, you would understand why. Geez.

Although I haven’t posted anything on here. I have been posting on another private blog with some girlfriends of mine. I just have neglected to post anything on my personal weightloss (or lack thereof). I believe its time to make a change and start posting again. Here goes for a little update on how things are doing with me and my ever thunderous thighs.

In November, after a visit with my doctor, I knew it was time I start getting serious about my weight and the possible medical concerns it could cause me in the future. Through some blood work, we found that my cholesterol was a little high. Not enough to require medication and to be honest, I don’t want to be on medication. The doctor told me to do the diet/exercise routine and to follow up with him in 6 months. He gave me some information on the Mediterranean Diet and suggested I follow it. As of November 15, 2010 I began getting “serious” about the weightloss.

From Nov 15th until Dec 31st, I hadn’t done anything other than just watch what I was eating and cutting my portions in half (sometimes thirds). Just by doing this alone, I lost 15.6 pounds. Woo Hoo!

On January 1, 2011 I decided what better way to start off my new year than by completing a 5K. I signed myself and a friend up for the Run In 2011 with the Jackson County Parks & Rec Department. Let me just tell you that it was nothing short of being absolutely miserable! It was POURING down the rain and it was cold!

I had a goal of completing the 5K in less than 46 minutes. (I had done the Smoky Streak last year, Oct 2009, and that was my finishing time.) I wanted to beat my previous time. However, I did not put into consideration that I have not done a single thing as far as activity since Oct 2009, AND I was 10lbs heavier than I was then. Regardless, I was OK with my time. I came in at 52:11; I was 4th in my age group (who cares if there was only 5 of us!) The fact is, I did it and I have the blisters and t-shirt to prove it.
The day after this 5K, I was painfully sore and achy. I hurt in places that I didn’t know were effected by jogging or walking. But I knew I had to get back on the workout wagon. I renewed my gym membership and the following Monday I was back in the gym. Last week I was able to go to the gym on Monday, Tuesdsay and Friday. Wednesday I stayed with my sister and b/c of rain was unable to walk outside, so I done the 30 Day Shred. Thursday, I didn’t do anything. Saturday I had to work at Humanité and Sunday I chose to be lazy. Yesterday, I decided that I have been “lazy” too many days in a row, so I asked Michelle if she wanted to go on a walk with me in the snow. We didn’t walk too very far, but we were walking in about a foot of snow, icy roads and a slight incline, so it worked out well for a good quick walk with resistance. I was sweating bullets by the time I got back inside. But I felt great.
As of right now, I have lost a total of 18.2 lbs since November 15th. I’m not sure how many inches I’ve lost, last count was 2.75 around my waist. I will update this soon.

I will try my hardest to keep track of things here.
Here’s to a New Year and a New Healthier Me.
